Match Report: Sheffield Daily Telegraph: 24th February 1920:
Wednesday Res. inflict big defeat on Leeds United
Leeds United, who causedsomething of a sensationin the Midland League circles by defeating Castleford Town on Saturday, 6-0, were beaten soundly by the Wednesday
Res. at Hillsborough yesterday afternoon, before a good attendance. The first half was more evenly contested than the second. Leeds opened the scoring, Birtles, who received
from the left wing, working straight in and beating Birch. Shortly afterwards Edmondson equalised and the interval was one goal each. Leeds United were absolutely outclasses
during the second half, and the Reserves obtained further goals through Wilson, Taylor (2), and Bentley. About four minutes from the end Anstead scored for Leeds. The feature of
the game was the fine display by Shelton, who, with Andrew Wilson, who rendered him much assisstance, formed a dangerous left wing. Jeffrey had a very busy time, wheras Birch
had very few shots to deal with. Bentley tackled welland was always on the alert to put forwards in possession, and the latter responded with some very good combinations. Reed
may have given given a better account of himself, but he was playing against a powerful back in Jagger. Plows was very speedy in the first half, but a good many centres went a
begging. With a little more sting behind his shots, Mason might have reduced the defeat.
